Teen Vogue Fashion University Synopsis

Inspiring Speakers, New Fashionable Friends, and Amazing Opportunity!

So this past weekend Jess and I went to Teen Vogue Fashion University, this was our first time attending and we were very impressed! To attend, you have to fill out an application and be accepted into the major of your choice: design and styling, PR (public relations), or the business of fashion.

Since Jess and I major in Fashion Marketing we applied to be in the Business of Fashion major at the event. Thankfully, we were accepted. About a week prior to the event we got the itinerary of the the speakers we would be listening to. Here it is:
Jess and I arrived in the city at 10 AM on Friday morning so we got to do a lot of fun things in the city. I definitely suggest doing these activities: Ralph's Coffee Shop (Inside Ralph Lauren on Fifth Avenue) it's great for cute pictures and great coffee! Chelsea Market in Chelsea, wonderful artistic shops, artisan food and samples, and great atmosphere!

Friday night: We had the opening party for the conference on Friday night, it was in the Express in Times Square. They basically closed the entire store down just for us to party and shop! They had a DJ, photo booth where they created a photo flip book, discount on clothing, Teen Vogue editors were there, makeup bars, and hors d'oeuvres! We had a great time and made a lot of friends there!

Saturday: So Saturday morning, we got to the new World Trade Center at 8 AM and began to check in! One WTC was breathtaking, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to go inside! Our first speakers of the  day were Meredith Melling and Valerie Boster, former Vogue editors and current owners of the marketing consulting firm, La Marque NYC. These wonderful women taught us all about brand voice and the importance of making your label's message clear! Next we heard from Jessica Simpson about how she went from singer and actress to owning a multimillion dollar lifestyle brand. We ate lunch after that and then heard from my personal favorite speaker Donald Robertson (instagram - @donalddrawbertson) he spoke to us about how to build our own instagrams like you would market a brand as a way of marketing yourself. After him we heard from Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, and the Teen Vogue Editors panel, both had great advice about how to break into the industry! Finally, we heard from celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury and how she got to where she is today.

Sunday: Sunday was the day we heard from the keynote speaker! Leandra Medine founder of the mega-famous fashion blog, www.manrepeller.com! She gave us great tips on how to build your blog and get it noticed! You're going to see a lot of her tips put into work here on In the Chic so stay tuned!
